My career began as a self starting, self taught bookkeeper in the UK almost 19 years ago. During my career I have worked up the ladder to a position of financial controller. I love my work, and it regularly involves late nights and weekends, but I credit much of my experience and success to the poor quality bookkeepers out there. Sometimes business owners are so desperate and so 'green' they really have no idea how to recruit a good bookkeeper from a bad one and this leaves them and their business vulnerable.

I am lucky, I am a new business and have only advertised the once - now, I mainly work on referrals.

It is only quite recently I actually started to use my clients for references, I always felt this a breach of their confidentiality, but I am surprised that very few prospective clients actually want to see my achievements in this way. I can't wait to share my bookkeeping or accountancy experiences.

A good bookkeeper can save a client a lot of stress, money, time and effort so when they are fortunate enough to find one that quickly adapts to their business needs with interest and enthusiasm all I can say is look after them, they could be one of the biggest assets a business can have.

Bookkeeping to a business should not be perceived as an expense but as an investment, knowledge and experience bears a cost. Whilst "cheap" does not necessarily mean "poor quality" there is truth in "You get what you pay for"

Hello Diana! Thanks for your comment.

I am excited and glad that I've inspired you to begin setting stretch goals for yourself. I often see your vehicle, by the way, parked near my office on Johnson Street!

Thank you Susan for sharing your expertise and knowledge with us on Friday morning. I really appreciated all the terrific information you provided. You've inspired me to develop a strategic plan for my own business. Your quote about goal setting really hit home: "A goal is something you need to change to achieve it."

Thanks also for the power point slides!

Thank you Susan for a great presentation! You shared excellent content and included not only what to do, but why and how to do it. I have to say the best part for me was the questions you put out to the group. Those questions were poignant and they really make a person think about the core of their business and most importantly, the core of themself.

Hi Susan

Thank you once again for an informative and complete presentation. It was perfect for my new staff committee members (one of which has never done strategic planning) who will be serving on our strategic planning committee. I was wondering if you could email your powerpoint presentation. I would like to use the planning circle slide to quickly get my committee working by showing them where we are in the process.

I assume that after this I will be able to access the templates that you spoke about on your website. Have a great day and I hope to see you at Lucille Gala Ball!
