NEED Crisis Information Line Community Forum

In addition to providing a much-needed 24-hour crisis intervention phone line, the NEED Crisis Line organization provided suicide prevention education programs for youth through their SAY program. VIHA restructured the crisis line service provision on Vancouver Island so NEED’s phone line services were discontinued; shortly afterwards they lost their funding for the SAY program. This meant Victoria was losing all support for youth suicide prevention/awareness education. NEED Crisis Line contacted me, through the Victoria Foundation, to lend my support to a community forum in June 2010.

As part of my preparation, I attended one of their planning meetings and contributed some process design tips to the team as they laid out their agenda. They used the “WorldCafe” dialogue format to gather ideas and input from the attendees, and I helped them frame the questions they were going to use to guide this stage of the forum.

During the event, I did graphic recording of the panel presentation and the report-out from the WorldCafe discussions.

I’m really happy with the way this World Cafe chart turned out. The kite theme works as a visual metaphor and “organizing principle” for the four discussion areas. Those in the know will probably recognize liberal sprinklings of Bikablo-style graphics on this one, mixed in with some of my favorite workhorses such as the bag of money, spirals, and people in circles.

Enjoy! (Click on the images to see the full image).

These are some awesome charts! Great job love how you have used like a big central piece and come back out of it like a mindmap. Especially love the kite!
